Deaths by Type of Incident
Although motor-vehicle deaths decreased 4% from 2023 to 2024, over the last 10 years motor-vehicle deaths have increased 13%. During this same time, pedestrian deaths have increased by 31%, and bicyclist deaths have increased by 27%. The largest proportion of deaths involves collisions with other motor vehicles, which have increased 20% over the last 10 years. Incident types trending down include deaths involving collisions with railroads, collisions with fixed objects, non-collision incidents, and non-traffic events.

Deaths by incident type are NSC estimates and may not add to the total deaths.
